NEWS AND NOTES

As I think about the approaching holiday season and our break from school I look forward to relaxing and enjoying time with family and I hope you are able to do the same.  I also hope you are able to take some time to read with your children and maintain those skills that we have established this year.  It will be important to spend some time EACH day reading, writing or working with words so your child will not have to work twice as hard in January to reestablish their skills.  Speaking of January......I will be gone from school for most of the month of January.  I

WAKANDA HOLIDAY SEASON PLANS INCLUDE:

1.  We would like the tree that will be in the multipurpose room to be decorated with hats, mittens and socks that we will give to needy children.  If you are able, please send a new (or slightly used) pair of mittens, hat or socks with your child to school so we can decorate a tree.

If your child is in grades 3-5 I hope you have been hearing a lot about getting lots of sleep and eating a good breakfast because we have just finished the WKCE state test.  For those of you new to the world of testing here is some background information.  The Wisconsin Knowledge and Concept Exam is given to students annually in grades 3-5, 6, 7, 8 and 10.  The third and fifth graders are only tested in reading and math while the fourth graders are tested in reading, math, language arts, science and social studies.  The exam is given in November and we receive the result

WAKANDA NEWS AND NOTES

I have told so many people that the best Fall view in the country is out my office window.  I look out at an array of colors this time of year that are so beautiful.  Each tree is so different that it reminds me of all our students which are so different from each other.  We have just finished reviewing the students' beginning of the year assessement information and have looked at the learning needs of each student.  We try to provide the support each student needs to learn at school.  However, the student's best support starts at home.

A NOTE FROM THE WAKANDA PRINCIPAL

Can you believe we'll be starting the fourth week of school next week?  The weather still feels like it is summer!  I must compliment our students on a smooth beginning to the school year.  It seems like each day gets a little easier as studnts learn routines and learn the C.A.R.E.S.  The Wakanda staff devotes the first six weeks of school to learning how to live respectfully with each other in our community.
